Description

These rare and highly sought-after Yellow Spot Rabbit Snails showcase a dramatic contrast with their dark charcoal-to-black body and foot, boldly accented by bright yellow or golden spots and markings. Their tall, heavily ridged spiral shells range from deep bronze to dark brown, often highlighted with lighter tones that emphasize the striking pattern. The signature long, wrinkled proboscis (snout) completes their “rabbit” or “elephant snail” appearance, and their deliberate, gliding movement across the tank is captivating to observe.

– Adult Size: Up to 3.5–5+ inches (one of the larger Tylomelania species; exceptional specimens can reach nearly 5 inches with optimal care)

– Behavior: Peaceful, active grazers and scavengers. They spend hours methodically cruising the substrate, glass, driftwood, and plants in search of food, making them both entertaining and helpful in the aquarium.

– Diet: Omnivorous – excels at consuming biofilm, soft algae, decaying plant matter, blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach, cucumber, kale), sinking pellets, algae wafers, and occasional meaty foods like bloodworms or shrimp.

– Tank Setup: Thrives in mature, stable aquariums with fine sand or smooth substrate, abundant hiding spots (driftwood, rocks, live plants), and gentle to moderate water flow. Minimum 15–20 gallons for 1–2 snails due to their impressive adult size; add ~3–4 gallons per additional snail.

– Water Parameters: Temperature 76–86°F (24–30°C), pH 7.5–8.5 (ideally 7.8–8.3), GH 6–15, KH 4–10. Keep ammonia and nitrite at 0 ppm with low nitrates. They prefer mineral-rich water—regular calcium supplementation helps maintain strong, healthy shells.

Like other rabbit snails, these beauties reproduce very slowly through live birth (not eggs), so population booms are never an issue. They are outstanding tankmates for shrimp, peaceful fish, and planted Sulawesi-style or community setups. Avoid copper-based medications, as they are extremely sensitive.

These elegant “yellow-spotted giants” bring a touch of rare Sulawesi drama and personality to any serious aquascape—perfect for hobbyists who appreciate large, character-filled invertebrates!
